HIGH RISK​

• Multiple victims

• Prior history of animal abuse and human violent behavior

• Behavior suggests premeditation

• Animal abuse achieves sense of pleasure

• May be ritualized or patterned

• Sadistic

• Fails to follow supervision rules

• Complete lack of remorse

MEDIUM RISK​

• Escalating history of animal abuse (more than 1 x)

• Increased harm 

• Difficulty in interpersonal relationships and family problems 

• Inadequate remorse and empathy 

• History of family violence 

• Family endorses abusive belief systems 

• Prior history of mental health problems 

• Prior and current history of criminal behavior 

LOW RISK​

• No patterned history of animal abuse 

• No evidence of premeditation 

• Less serious harm to animal 

• Does not use abuse to achieve a specific gain except attention needs

•  Minimal denial 

• The abuser demonstrates capacity for remorse/ empathy 

• No other significant dysfunction

•  No criminal history
